Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for information.
An important official said the vandalism left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
